In Love with the Moon
A downloadable game
Science is awesome and terrible, and so too is the moon—your destination.
The year is 1968. You are a team of scientists, crowded in an old castle where the air flows thick with LSD and there is a maze of rooms below you stocked with every scientific oddity, all for one purpose: to get you to the moon by whatever means necessary. This game is a looney race to luna. Champion your crackpot ideas, wrestle with hallucinations, confess your love to the moon, fall out of love, get weird, but above all—get to the moon!
- GMless play for 2 to 6 players.
- Diceless mechanics, except for the moon herself who is a d20.
- Hypothesized for one-shot use, but projects can carry over from session to session, if you've found sustainable funding for your research.
- Break the glass, embrace the weird, and fall...In Love with the Moon!
Precis of the System
In layman's terms, In Love with the Moon is mostly a game of arguing about how your plan to get to the moon is better, and being mean to your fellow players under the auspices of scientific snootiness.
Conflict Resolution Among Scientists
Conflict resolution for this game uses the scientific method—a soul-crushing peer review process. It ultimately rewards politicking more than science itself. The only dice in the game is a single d20, as representative of the moon herself.
The Strange Layout of Castle Fuzzlorbin
You've been sequestered to (locked in to) an isolated castle, beneath which is a labyrinth of rooms containing abandoned outdated scientific experiments, outdated WW2 surplus equipment, and even stranger things. Drawing inspiration from the moon, you will take what you find in those rooms and try to reach her, all while combating your drug-induced hallucinations, scientific setbacks, falling in love, falling out of love, getting weird, and your own eccentricities.
Proper Scientific Credit
This game was made for the Below a Bad Moon Jam hosted by Shouting Crow Games, in all appreciation for the good creative work they do.
